One of the most essential parts of culture and urban life is food, and for most of us, it’s not just a need but an experience, and a means to preserve a way of life.

To celebrate this, well-known culinary experts, writers, and researchers will be speaking in Power of Pen 8: Mindanao Culinary Culture – Research and Writing Basics. The event will be held on May 19, 2018 at the Training Room, 8F Community Center of the First Companions, Ateneo de Davao University, E. Jacinto St., 8016, Davao City from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The seminar and workshop aims to equip aspiring food writers with key points on how to produce attractive and flavorful gastronomic content on digital platforms, especially social media. Notable writers and editors from the field will be attending as guest speakers namely Ms. Michaela Fenix, Chef Datu  Pendatun III, Dr. Macario Tiu, and Ms. Lolita Lacuesta.

The speakers will go even further by discussing how the rich literature of Mindanaon cuisine can be used as a means to preserve and promote Mindanaon culture, and to encourage more research. They will talk about their own specific topics: A Study on the Cuisine of Muslim Mindanao (Chef Datu Pendatun III), Documenting The Recipes of The Ten Tribes of Davao (Dr. Macario Tiu), and The Davao We Know: Writing to Record Socio-Cultural History (Ms. Lolita Lacuesta).

Scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds, food has always been pervasive content, whether it be to endorse a review, announce an opening, or evoke hunger and craving.  Working with clients to produce content and spread brand awareness, Coffeebot believes in the power of social media as a medium that will put food writing on the spotlight.

“There is minimal education on food writing for the web; that’s why I appreciate this very specialized workshop on food blogging,” said Coffeebot Operations Director Jessica Madrazo.

“A lot of marketers can learn from this conference. Plus, it’s just a pleasure to learn about Mindanao culture from some of the finest scholars and writers in Mindanao,” she added.

For those who are interested in joining the seminar, may join by filling up the form here.  They may also visit their Facebook page or their website. They may also be contacted through  927-7208 or 0906-3859213.
